My first business was an independent consultant with Home Interiors and Gifts.  I mainly joined to decorate my home at a discount on a newlywed's budget.  Later, my husband and I decided to buy our first home, and a week before closing, we were $500 short.  So, I called my ladies and ran a special and in one weekend, I earned the money we needed to close on our home.  This gave me the confidence to quit my job and work my business from home when our first and only son was born.  I was able to stay home with him until he entered preschool.  That's why I fell in love with the direct sales concept. 

 

In time, my needs changed.  I desired to help other people grow their income by using this method.   Because of the compensation plan, I was unable to do so with Home Interiors, so I joined Jafra Cosmetics.  I loved the products at the time, but their business model was a bit much for me.  So, I sought after other skin care companies that had a more reasonable compensation plan.  Every company I joined either changed their plan after I got in, or I found out that their products weren't that great after all. 

 

Later, I learned about ingredients and skin care and realized that I wanted truly natural and organic products.  Unable to find what I was looking for, I decided to mentor company owners who wanted to incorporate a direct sales model.  Thus, I founded the Multicultural Direct Selling Alliance.   My first client, Indigofera, was the first to include my consultant ideas into her company concept.  Today, she is a successful distribution source for ethnic natural hair care products and services natural hair care salons nationwide.  Other clients included Urban Nature, Inky Loves Nature, Nirini Candles, and Nyenzo.  I am even more proud of a client that I had the privilege of working with when she received a call from the Oprah Winfrey Show to showcase her line of natural hair care, Eden Body Works.  You will now find Jasmine's products in your local Whole Foods, Walgreens, and Walmarts nationwide.  But, my last client, Likisma Aromatherapy, UK contacted the Multicultural Direct Selling Alliance and asked if I would help launch their US division.  I learned a great deal about natural products from my clients, but I knew nothing of essential oils.  But, the company seemed good enough, so I decided to give it a try.  I was successful at recruiting, but I needed to be trained in aromatherapy so that I could train the consultants.  So, Lisa Burke (the owner) had someone from their company teach us how to use essential oils.  But, first, she helped me to believe in the healing power of essential oils after I used one of her formulas after a car accident damage my left shoulder.  After my work with that client, I could not leave aromatherapy alone.  I later got certified in herbs, aromatherapy and flower essences.  I'm currently taking a course in natural health, and each year, I take a continuing education course in some form of holistic wellness just to stay current so that I can service my clients better.
